I saw a post a couple days ago where someone was talking about some abuse of the surrogacy system, and their takeaway was 'surrogacy is evil' and I wanted to yell at them about my gay friends and their beautiful surrogacy-enabled baby but realized it was probably not helpful to engage.

Student loans are "fun" because you also get the second most annoying public policy argument - intent vs outcome. The interest rate shouldn't matter much because student loan debt is insanely fake. Any debt that gets fully forgiven after 20 years (10 with PSLF) is not real debt so paying off the principal doesn't matter. But then the program is so poorly managed that we don't actually SEE the thing working as intended, forcing people to argue about changes to help people who should not even be paying in the first place.
